What is included in the POCUS Generalist Certification Course?
The POCUS Generalist Certification Course includes access to the POCUS FocusClass (developed by 123sonography) and the POCUS Generalist Certification (developed by Inteleos™). 

The POCUS FocusClass will ensure you will become skilled in the use of handheld ultrasound devices and ultrasound exams in your clinical setting. You will save critical time in making a diagnosis - even if you currently have little or no experience in the use of ultrasound - with a course specifically designed for general practitioners, medical students, primary care physicians, physician assistants, sonographers, and health care professionals. 

The POCUS Generalist Certification includes nine separate assessments which match the chapters of the POCUS FocusClass. Each of these assessments is necessary to complete before the POCUS Generalist certification may be awarded.

Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) can be applied in many scenarios including: dyspnea, peripheral edema, chest, abdominal, pelvic and joint-pain as well as in detecting pregnancy. At the same time, diagnostic ultrasound devices have become increasingly powerful, portable, and affordable.

Do I need to complete the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate first?

Yes. Since the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate is a prerequisite for all other specialty certificates and certifications, applicants must complete and pass this assessment first. 

Does my same discount code work for the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate and the POCUS Generalist Certification?

Yes. You will use the same discount code when applying for both certifications. 

Do I need to complete the remaining clinical assessments in any particular order?

No. Once applicants have earned the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate, they may take the remaining assessments in any order they choose. 

Will the 123sonography course guarantee I will pass the certificate assessment components?

No, completing this course or any other course does not guarantee passing the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy assessments. Successful passing of POCUS assessments is the only way to earn a POCUS certificate or certification.

How long do I have to complete all the assessments for the Generalist Certification?
You will have 30 days to complete the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate and 180 days to complete all components of the POCUS Generalist Certification. 

Note – the time starts when the voucher code you are provided is entered into the system during your application process for each certificate/certification (Fundamentals and Generalist). 
Where and when do I complete the assessments?
The Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy is designed to be convenient for busy healthcare practitioners. Your assessments can be taken immediately upon receipt of your application and payment or at any time that works for you—as long as all assessments are completed within the designated time frames

Assessments may be completed from the location of your choosing, although privacy is important to avoid sharing assessment content. A quiet environment with appropriate lighting and minimal distractions will improve your exam experience. 

All assessments are available online and may be started and stopped at will. The assessment remembers the last question you answered and bookmarks that location. To return to an assessment, login to MY POCUS and access your Certificate Plan. 
How should I prepare for the assessments?
Before applying, you are expected to be prepared through the completion of training or educational programs concerning foundational and specific point-of-care ultrasound. 

Candidates should carefully read all information concerning the Point-of-Care Certification Academy and its offerings prior to beginning the application process. It is also a good idea to watch the tutorial video, read the exam information, and review the technical specifications:

How are passing scores determined?

The scoring methodology for the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy assessments is determined by Inteleos™ Psychometric Services (IPS) in conjunction with the POCUS Academy Task Force and approved by the APCA™ Council. 

When do I receive my test results?
In most cases, results to your online assessments will be provided immediately and, if successful, you will be able to print your certificate(s) from your Certification Plan. These timelines may be extended due to technical or other conditions.

How are certificates provided?

Certificates will be provided electronically through the candidate’s Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy Certificate Plan.
